Information for Successful Applicants

  • Before You Come
Please print out the contract and other documentation you have been sent and bring it with you to the farm where it will be signed. If the date of your arrival changes you should inform us as soon as possible. If you cannot come, do not send somebody else instead of you.

    Accommodation
You do not have to stay in the accommodation at the site. However, if you do decide to stay on the site, accommodation is available in mobile homes and caravans.

    After Arrival
Go to the camp office so your paperwork can be sorted. You must have the following documents:
    1.Passport or ID card.
2.Contract and other documentation from the farm.
3.Student Declaration (proof of full time student status, if you are a student).
4.National Insurance Number (if you have worked in the UK before).

You will be provided with relevant information and training (about picking, safety, camp, etc.) before you start work. You will be given a farm ID card which is required for withdrawing money and it must be taken to the field so your picking can be allocated to your number. Each person must take responsibility for their own personal belongings. No responsibility will be taken for items lost or stolen on site. We advise you not to bring items of a high value with you.

    Work
The work depends on the weather conditions, customer demand and external factors, so work cannot be guaranteed. All seasonal work is on a daily basis and workers are employed on a strictly casual basis. The working hours are variable and dependent on the crop. Most work will be done on a piece work basis, which means earnings depend upon your own production levels. Pay entitlement is in accordance with the Agricultural Wages Order and will be taken daily. (more information in FAQ’s).

    Working Hours
There are no normal working hours. The majority of work on our farm will be on a piece work basis, when weather plus state of the crop will play a part. Row checkers on the whole like to start around 0730 and finish at 1630 if work is available. Harvesting is normally available no more than 8 hours per day. In very hot weather these hours can be altered by mutual agreement. We advise you to take food and drink with you to work as it can be hot during the day.

    Disciplinary Procedures
Discipline must be maintained within our large workforce at all times and we reserve the right to dismiss any employee who is guilty of serious misconduct or who fails to adhere to our rules and procedures.

    General Information
Always act responsibly and safely. You are working on a farm which can be a dangerous place because there are moving vehicles, machinery, etc around the site.

Look at the frequently asked questions for more information about the farm. There are many subjects covered which people ask about every year.
